Recognition of CIT courses and awards
Cork Institute of Technology operates under the terms of the Qualifications Act (1999) and therefore all courses lead to an award of a qualification which is fully recognised and conforms with the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
Each CIT award has a corresponding NFQ level. The main qualifications awarded are:

CIT has authority (delegated from the Higher Education and Training Awards Council) to make awards up to level 10. CIT is also an approved provider for certain FETAC awards. Many of CIT's courses are certified by professional bodies (e.g. Engineers Ireland) which confers certain professional status and benefits on graduates of these courses.
Academic Quality and Recognition of CIT Awards
Cork Institute of Technology places a very high importance on ensuring that its programmes are of the highest possible standard. CIT has a rigorous Academic Quality System through which the Institute validates and continuously reviews its courses. CIT is proud of the fact that its academic standards are independently recognised as being of the highest quality. As a result, CIT is empowered to confer awards at all levels up to and including PhD under the terms of the Qualifications (Education & Training) Act 1999.
CIT's programmes operate under a quality system which is approved by HETAC, the Higher Education & Training Awards Council.
The system is published as three books which organise and make accessible the procedures and practices which our staff has developed through the Academic Council. The Quality System aims to ensure constant improvement in teaching and learning processes.
- Book 1 covers an overview, introduction and principles > Academic Quality System Book 1
- Book 2 deals with the main academic processes such a course review, new course development etc > Academic Quality System Book 2
- Book 3 deals with the regulations for postgraduate research > CIT Postgraduate Regulations, adopted April 2012
The academic quality system is operated through the Registrar's office of CIT.
Awards granted to students of CIT are quality assured and delegated by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC), the Irish national awarding body for higher education. The Institute has obtained valuable additional recognition for its courses by professional bodies, in order to enhance the professional standing of graduates and to provide them with the fullest possible advantages for employment and career development. The main recognitions obtained are shown in the table below.
