The National Skills Award tests apprentices from all over Ireland in disciplines such as Cookery, Aircraft Maintenance, Cabinet Making, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Painting & Decorating, Polymechanics, Sheetmetal Work and Restaurant Service, the discipline in which Rory competed.
Every two years the best Irish apprentices then go on to compete in World Skills, which has been dubbed the Olympics for trades.
The competition is held over two and a half days of intense skill showcasing, after which Rory was deemed to be joint winner of the highly sought after award.
