Course summary

A course for beginners and those with some experience who wish to improve their drawing and painting skills in portraiture and the full figure. This course deals with improving visual concentration, composition, tone and technique. Using a variety of mediums, they will explore the world of drawing and painting with a model as the subject. The course begins with the essential practice of drawing and gradually leads to painting in acrylic or oil. Students will be encouraged to explore a personal visual language through their chosen medium.


Fine Art & Applied Art, CIT CCAD

All part-time programmes at CIT CCAD will run subject to sufficient student numbers. Where a programme cannot proceed, applicants will be contacted and advised on alternative study options.

Students should note that Fees quoted relate to the academic year 2018-2019 only and are subject to change on an annual basis. Except where stated, course fees cover the cost of tuition only.

Students will be notified of their fees by email to their CIT email account and in all cases, course fees must be paid before attending lectures.

An Information/Registration session will take place on Thursday 6th September 2018 from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at the CIT Crawford College of Art & Design, Sharman Crawford Street, Cork. College staff will be in attendance to offer assistance.

Tutor Profile

Eileen Healy is an established figurative artist based at Backwater Studios. A firm believer in the practice of working from life she regularly works from the model in her studio. She has been included in many high profile exhibitions including Arnott’s Portrait award and RHA annual show. Her artist residencies include Students Arts League, New York, and Tyrone Guthrie Centre. She has taught several drawing workshops both in Ireland and abroad.

An information evening will be held at our CIT Crawford College Grand Parade Campus on Thursday, 6th September 2018, 6.00pm – 8.00pm where tutors will be available to give information and answer questions on the courses on offer. Applicants can also view an exhibition of artwork from evening course students from the previous academic year. The exhibition takes place from Thursday 6th September until Friday 14th September 2018.
