Admission Requirements:

The minimum requirements are Grade D3 (ordinary level) in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate, to include Mathematics and either English or Irish. Mature students will be considered on an individual basis.

Course summary

To give participants a firm foundation in Business studies in order to give them a better opportunity to gain employment, or to enable them make an immediate contribution in their place of employment.

All part-time programmes at CIT will run subject to sufficient student numbers. Where a programme cannot proceed, applicants will be contacted and advised on alternative study options.

Students should note that Fees quoted relate to the academic year 2017-2018 only and are subject to change on an annual basis. Except where stated, course fees cover the cost of tuition only.

Registration fees for professional bodies etc. are payable separately to these institutions. Students will be notified of their fees by email to their CIT email account and in all cases, course fees must be paid before attending lectures.

An Information/Registration session will take place on Tuesday 5th September from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at the CIT Bishopstown Campus. Institute staff will be in attendance to offer career guidance and assistance.


Course fee: €185 per 5 credit module (inc. exam fees)

Year 1 and 2:
Trimester 1: Two evenings per week, 6pm - 10pm
Trimester 2: Three evenings per week, 6pm - 10pm
Trimester 3:  Two evenings per week, 6pm – 10pm

The complete course will extend over two years. Modules will be taught on a trimesterised basis. Official examinations will be held at the end of each term. Certification for the course is through the ACCS Scheme.

ACCS Scheme

The ACCS scheme (Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects) is a specially designed system for part-time students. It allows students to study one or more subjects at a time and obtain credit for each subject passed. Students who accumulate the appropriate number of modules qualify for the award of Higher Certificate.

Higher Certificate in Business (Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications)

Further Study

One further year of study could lead to a level 7 Degree in:

  • Bachelor of Business in Management (Part-time)
  • Bachelor of Business in Accounting (Full Time and Part-time)#
  • Bachelor of Business (Full-time)

Depending on the specialism chosen above, students can complete a level 8 (Honours) degree as follows:

  • Bachelor of Business Honours (Full-time and Part Time)
  • Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting (Full Time and Part-time)

  • Online application is open for course commencing 11th September 2017. 
  • Please note that applicants will be required to pay an acceptance fee of €450 online if a place on a course is offered. This fee is deductible from the overall course fee.
  • Late applications may be considered should any places become available.
