Graduates who achieve the specified level of academic performance in the Bachelor of Arts in Early Year Education or equivalent are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Years Education, 1 year full-time or by ACCS mode. ACCS is an acronym for “Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Modules”. This scheme allows students (for specified courses) - instead of studying an entire course - to study one or more modules of that course. Modules passed, are certified individually, and can be accumulated, leading to an award of a Honours Degree.
Please Note: Entry to the BA (Honours) in Early Years Education is by direct application to the Institute and may include an interview.
The course is intended as a means of progression for holders of the Bachelor of Arts in Early Years Education or equivalent. In all circumstances, it is the applicant/student’s responsibility to proactively disclose any convictions/cases pending. The Institute reserves the right to inform any placement agency of the existence of any convictions/cases pending.
Please note: that all applicants to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Years Education may be required to undergo Garda vetting.
Depending upon the outcome of the vetting process, the Institute reserves the following rights:
1. to not register a student
2. to remove an existing registered student
Sport, Leisure and Childhood Studies
Lectures, tutorials, experiential, peer assessments and a research dissertation constitute the pedagogical means used. The programme is currently offered full time and through the ACCS mode. The programme aims to impart a knowledge and understanding of the management of human, physical, financial and other resources required for the delivery of programmes in early education in addition to associated research methods and ethical considerations for the development of standard practice and children’s’ rights in early education.
Research study to Doctoral level is possible in the field of Early Years Education in CIT.

The BA (Hons) in Early Years Education contains both theoretical and practical modules with a strong research and management focus and it is envisaged that the majority of graduates will find employment either working in a managerial capacity directly with children; setting up and managing their own childcare centres or working within the HSE & Childcare Committees as regional coordinators or project managers etc. Additionally, it is anticipated that graduates will be in a position to contribute nationally to the development of policy and provision within the sector.
