CIT's Michael Linehan joins European Tech Start Up of the Year

What do you think of when you think of student interns? You may be forgiven for thinking student interns do the coffee run and spend their time filing or doing photocopying. This is definitely not the case for Cork Institute of Technology’s Business Inforamtion Systems (BIS) students on their work placement.

At present Michael Linehan is attracting the attention of big players in the Cork tech scene whilst undertaking his 3rd year Business Information Systems work placement at innovative tech start-up Trustev, a company that is transforming how people transact on the Internet.

Since commencing his placement in early 2013, Michael, who is 21 and from Ballyvolane in Cork, has been working at the front lines of an exciting new business where his role includes project management, dealing with sales enquiries and helping new customers integrate into Trustev’s global anti-fraud platform. His work has contributed significantly to Trustev’s recent success in being named the European Commission’s European Tech Start Up of the Year 2013.

Trustev CEO, Pat Phelan, has encouraged his “interns” to blog about their experience at the company. Michael’s blog has attracted attention among tech bloggers and the like, not least for its humour and tongue-in-cheek approach.

Michael is obviously having no problem applying the skills acquired so far as a BIS student in CIT to the workplace and he recently put his BIS experience to further use designing a new onboarding process for new hires at Trustev.

Phelan has applauded his efforts on numerous occasions and recently credited Michael for keeping “the show on the road in the Trustev Cork office”.

Each year, CIT students from a wide range of disciplines undertake work placement with leading multinational and indigenous organisations. If you believe your company could benefit from engaging a work placement student, please contact CIT Extended Campus on 021 432 6017.
