The Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, which runs from the 22nd - 28th March, promotes and celebrates learning of all kinds and is organised by the Learning Forum, set up under the Cork City Development Board to address the key theme of Cork as a City of Learning .

Access & Supports for Disabled Students
Hear from Carmel Hennessy (Assistive Technology Outreach Co-ordinator) how to overcome challenges faced by disabled students. Watch demonstrations of helpful technologies. Laura O’Rourke (Disability Support Officer) explains the DARE (Disability Access to Education) scheme, and other supports available and how to access them. Current CIT students talk about their experiences and the support they receive. Refreshments served. Session repeated this afternoon.

Try a little Samba
Everyone is welcome to an open rehearsal with CIT Carnival Samba. The group performs regularly at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, at concerts in venues such as City Hall & here and at outdoor events around the city. CIT’s Access Service enlisted the expertise of Graffiti Theatre Company to deliver this drama workshop for Transition Year. It asks students to look into the opportunities available to them and how, in order to take advantage of them, they must make choices which suit their abilities & interests. The workshop is offered to the linked secondary schools in the city.

This evening come to the opening of an exhibition of work produced by students on evening courses at the college. It includes life drawing, photography, stained glass, textiles, ceramics. Exhibition continues 9am – 5pm daily until April 1.

Unravelling DNA – a workshop
CIT presents a workshop for those who find DNA a mystery. Dr Siobhán O’Sullivan explores the story of DNA, how it was discovered, what it looks like, the quantity we have and the information it contains. She examines the genetic basis of diseases such as cystic fibrosis and hemochromatosis. She also explores genetic fingerprinting used in crime detection and paternity testing. Workshop repeated this afternoon. Booking essential as places limited.
