Post Graduate Showcase > part of Innovation Week

Published on: Tuesday, 15 March 2011

As part of Innovation Week, the Research Office hosted a Post Graduate Showcase on the 10th March in the Nexus Centre, Bishopstown Campus. This involved an exhibition of post graduate research in the form of posters and Bank of Ireland sponsored the event as a Poster Competition by giving a €100 voucher to the winner. There was an excellent response to this inaugural event. Over thirty students took part, from the Departments of Electronic Engineering; Biological Sciences; Maths & Computing; Applied Physics & Instrumentation; and Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering.

The winning poster entitled “Finite Element Analysis of the Sliotar-Hurley Impact in the game of Hurling” was from Amjad AlSakarneh of the NIMBUS Centre for Embedded Systems Research. Congratulations to Amjad and his mentors Dr John Barret and Dr Ger Kelly.

The Research Office would like to thank Ms Rose Coughlan, Bank of Ireland, for sponsoring the event and Dr Eamonn Cashell, Dr Margaret Linehan, Dr Brendan O’Connell, Dr Niall Smith, and Dr Joe Harrington for judging the competition. They had a difficult call as all of the posters and research were of a very high standard. Also, we would like to send a big thank you to all of the students for taking part and being on hand to explain and interest their audience in their research. Well done to all.
