CIT's CAMMS (Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Management Systems)  has announced the Project Management Student of the Year at the inaugural CIT Diploma in Project Management Awards Ceremony. The awards took place in the Rochestown Park Hotel with a mix of representatives from both academia and from companies spanning a range of industries.

The winner of the main award for 2012 was announced as Elton Chambers who works for GE in Cork.  Elton was selected as winner based on his academic performance across all disciplines of project management and based on the manner in which he  applied those good practices in the workplace.  Presenting the trophy was Pat Lucey, Managing Director of AspiraCon, the Irish Project Management specialist firm who sponsored the award.  Mr Lucey said “As part of the judging panel I want to acknowledge the excellent performance that was demonstrated by participants in the Diploma in Project management course offered by CIT.  Elton faced some very stiff competition, and came out as a worthy winner.  For me, Elton Chambers epitomises what Industry wants in a project manager – comprehensive knowledge, excellent organisational skills and strong people focus – ensuring good communication.  As this country goes through some painful changes, I would encourage those driving change to use the fundamentals of Project Management to deliver that change on time and on budget.”   
     
CIT has focussed on developing its Diploma in Project Management since 2010 (www.camms.ie), and has collaborated with experts in academia and industry, linking the course with the Project Management Institute® which is the largest professional body for Project Managers worldwide.  Colum Horgan, President of the Ireland Chapter of the Project Management Institute®, said “We are delighted to see the growth in quality Project Management education, particularly as it enables people to build their skills and advance their long term careers as a Certified Project Manager.”
 
CIT CAMMS Centre Manager,  Paul Keane, said “CIT has used a number of experts from within the Institute and from across industry to develop what it believes to be a Best-in-Class offering in the area of Project Management.  I am delighted to recognise the success of Elton and his colleagues in successfully completing their studies and receiving their Diplomas.  The CIT Diploma in Project Management experience is an example of how close collaboration between CIT Academic experts in Project Management and the key industry practitioners, working together can yield benefits for all concerned, but particularly for the students.”
