CIT announces new BSc in Craft Technology (Wood) with Business CR077

The Centre of Craft Studies at CIT is pleased to announce a new Bachelor of Science in Craft Technology (Wood) with Business Level 7 Programme, which will commence in September 2012. This is a unique course that offers students the chance to learn more about Carpentry & Joinery in fully equipped workshops while at the same time developing relevant business skills needed to run a business or manage large scale projects.

Graduates of this programme will have the skills and competencies to enter managerial levels within the construction industry or become self-employed in a traditional craft area using entrepeurial skills acquired during this programme.

Craft Technology is focused on practical skills of Carpentry and Joinery as well as knowledge of technology used in current building practice. There are a number of aspects to Craft Technology: sustainable building techniques, conservation, building information modelling and practical skills in areas such as roofing, window, and stair design all blended with core business and management comprehension.

The course duration is three years on a full-time basis, a design and fabrication project is completed by each student in Year 3.

Guest lecturers from industry with expertise in relevant areas will deliver lectures from time to time over the duration of the course. Site visits will be arranged in cooperation with local construction companies giving students the opportunity to analyse the practical application of the techniques and strategies discussed.
