CIT Mechanical Engineering graduate, Patrick Byrnes, from Patrickswell, Co. Limerick has been short-listed for the European Science Engineering and Technology Awards (SET), the finals of which take place in London at the end of September.

Patrick, who will be conferred with a first class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering in this year’s autumn Conferrings, is the second CIT student ever to be short-listed – and sole Irish student short-listed for the SET Awards this year. He has been nominated in the Mechanical Engineering category for his project “Automation of Femoral Implant Ultrasonic Cleaning and Blast Processes”.

The SET Awards are Europe's most important awards for science and technology undergraduates. Supported by Industry and leading scientific and technical institutions, the Awards are multidisciplinary to reflect the wide range of degrees third level colleges have to offer.

Dr Brendan Murphy, President of CIT said, “This is a major achievement for Patrick and CIT. I wish him every success in the finals later this month.”
