Microsoft Image Cup National Finals

A team of CIT Computing and Business students achieved notable success in March when they finished in second place in the innovation category of the Microsoft Imagine Cup National Finals in Dublin.

The team (BSc (Honours) in Web Development students: Robert Gabriel; Rokas Lukosevicius; BSc (Honours) in Software Development student: Libor  Kampas; and BBus (Honours) in Information Systems student: Matthew Donovan); competed against very high quality opposition to achieve this great result. Congratulations to the team and their supporters in CIT (Linda O’Sullivan, Gary Couse, Regina O’Flynn, and Joey Campbell) led by Jonathan Sherwin, Department of Computing.

During the course of their project, the team developed a rendering engine (entitled Falcon) that resizes/recodes media files to make them more accessible to users with low bandwidth or capped broadband download quotas. Users access the service through a new search engine at http://yoursear.ch (a work-in-progress). The team also has a Facebook page. The video that got them to the finals is available on YouTube at this link:
