The Wood Marketing Federation Third Level Student Awards 2014

The Wood Marketing Federation Third Level Student Awards 2014 were held in the Botanic Gardens in Dublin on the 12th July 2014 with four award categories to be decided in Architecture, Engineering, Design, and Innovation.

CIT students/graduates received awards in three of the four categories including the Winner in two categories from graduands of the BEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering programme.

The Engineering category Award Winner was Kieran McGrath, Final Year BEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering student of 2013/14, for his project titled Structural Timber Connections under Fire Loading; Kieran's supervisor was Andrew Macilwraith. This category Award was also won by a student of the Department in 2013 when Nick Bailey collected the award for his BEng in Civil Engineering Project with Andrew Macilwraith once again the supervisor; congratulations to Andrew on achieving back-to-back successes. 

The Architecture category Award Winner was Paul Glavin, Final Year BEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering student of 2013/14 for his project titled Design and Specification of Medium Rise Timber Buildings; Paul's supervisor was Ted McKenna. Paul has previously won the Institution of Structural Engineers, Republic of Ireland branch, Student Award for 2012 for his Level 7 BEng in Civil Engineering Project.

The Centre of Craft Studies achieved success in the highly competitive Design category with a Commendation awarded to second year BSc in Craft Technology student Daniel Sweeney, Daniel's supervisors were Brian Thoma and Thomas Murray.
