Specialist Industry Expertise

Many of the research groups, that comprise the strategic research clusters, provide specialist expertise to industry, business and government bodies. There are also a number of other long established centres that engage in research and consultancy. These include:

The Clean Technology Centre (CTC) CTC has been active in pure and applied environmental research since 1992 in the field of sustainable production and consumption including areas such as cleaner production, environmental management systems, environmental technologies, sustainable waste management, energy management, tracking and inventory of materials, and life cycle assessment.

The Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Management Systems (CAMMS) CAMMS is located in the Department of Manufacturing, Biomedical and Facilities Engineering and has undertaken research and consultancy projects in the areas of plant layout, simulation, project management and process optimisation.

The Centre for Surface and Interface Analysis (CSIA).The CSIA is based in the Department of Applied Physics and Instrumentation. It is a specialist facility for the analysis of the surfaces and interfaces of materials and engages in research that originates within industry.
