Information for New/Incoming Students 2018/19

 

Congratulations on coming to CIT which includes the Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork School of Music, National Maritime College of Ireland and courses at Clonakilty Agricultural College!

If you need any supports for your lectures or exams when you are at CIT because of your learning difference, health condition or disability you will need to register with the CIT Disability Support Service (DSS). If you need an academic personal assistant for physical tasks, sign language interpreters, physical access to campus/buildings, or mobility training, please email dss@cit.ie as soon as possible.

Please read the information below and please email us if you have any questions at dss@cit.ie - we cannot unfortunately return calls at this busy time.

Make sure to include your name, CAO number and date of birth in any emails.

 

DSS Welcome Events for new students and Parents/Guardians - August 2018 

 

Students

CIT DSS Student Orientation – Wednesday 29th August 2018. CIT, Bishopstown 9.45am - 1.30pm

 

The DSS Orientation for new students will take place in CIT Bishopstown Campus, on Wednesday 29th August 2018 9.45am- 1.30pm.  It is important that all new students who need DSS supports attend the orientation if they can. Please note this is a student only event.

  • If you cannot attend the orientation, please make sure to read the new DSS Student Guide 2018/19 and follow the registration information if you need supports from the DSS while studying at CIT: www.mycit.ie/dssstudentguide
     
  • We will have online orientation information available at the end of August, as well as drop in DSS information sessions that we will e-mail you about, and we will speak briefly at the other campus inductions.

Parents/Guardians

Parents/Guardians Information evening Monday 27th August 2018 6.30pm - 7.30pm
CIT Bishopstown Campus

 

The CIT DSS will run an information evening in CIT Bishopstown Campus, for parents/guardians of new students to explain the DSS registration process and supports available in CIT and the role of parents/guardians in supporting their son/daughter at third level and answer any questions.

Online bookings will open on 20th August and close on Sunday 26th August.

Registering with DSS


Students who are new to CIT will receive this information sheet about registering with the DSS in their course registration pack sent to them by the CIT Admissions Office at the end of August. You must register with the DSS in order to access exam supports, Learning Support or Assistive Technology.

CAO and DARE information and offers

 

  • If you are eligible for DARE you will be considered for reduced points places if needed and these offers will be made in the CAO round 1 on 20th August.
  • Students who are or who are not eligible for DARE who get a CIT place based on their points are welcome to register with the DSS if they need supports.

Student Accommodation

If you need accommodation in Cork and have not secured this so far please be aware that there is a shortage of accommodation for students. The CIT Student Accommodation office has information on its website: www.cit.ie/studentlife/accommodation/ 

Unfortunately, the DSS was unable to come to an agreement with private student accommodation providers so we cannot help students to source accommodation.
