Published on: Tuesday, 06 May 2014
Second year students, led by Dr. Sandra Lenihan, visited Eli Lilly, based in Kinsale to see how chemical engineering is applied in practice. Following safety orientation, the students were given a very informative tour of the whole site. The large molecules area (Biotech) was initially visited. Siobhan Lee (Class of 2011) delivered a presentation on “Biomanufacturing in Eli Lilly". The tour continued under the supervision of Gary Kirby to the small molecule production area, technical services laboratories while addressing utility generation and environmental. The students were given a great insight to how a graduate chemical engineer can move into a variety of different roles and have an interesting and varied career path within Eli Lilly. Refreshments were provided and enjoyed after the energetic tour around the site.
