1st Years go to Irving Oil
Half of the Chemical engineering 1st years with Dr Ann Toebes paid a visit to Irving Oil on Friday 5th May. John Ahern, a senior process engineer, delivered an overview of the operations at Irving Oil which include distillation, reforming, desulphurisation and water treatment. John outlined the role of the chemical engineer on the site and showed the relevance of the course modules in the workplace.
After the presentation, John showed us around the facility - the scale was very impressive (80,000 barrels of crude/day) and very much contrasting with the scale of the more locally predominant pharma and biopharma industries. Refreshments were provided before making the trip back to CIT.
