What will I study?

Modules

What is a Module?

A module is a standalone unit of learning and assessment and is completed within one semester. A full-time student will normally study six modules in each semester; part-time and ACCS (Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects) students will have flexibility as to the number of modules taken.

The button below provides a link to all of the University's approved modules for this programme.

Entry Requirements

Students are not required to have any previous experience.

What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

Fees

€300

Please note that applicants will be required to pay an acceptance fee of €300 online if a place on a course is offered. This fee is deductible from the overall course fee.

Note: You will not be charged for applying for the programme by clicking the 'apply now' button, you are only asked to pay an acceptance fee if a place is offered to you, and you wish to accept it.

Progression

These part-time, evening courses provide students with an opportunity to experience the potential of visual arts practice, through sustained engagement with materials, techniques, processes, research and art contexts.  Each course is an accredited module (5 credits) on the National Framework of Qualifications, where 60 credits equate to the workload of a full-time academic year on a degree programme.

It may be possible, therefore, to use these credits as part of one of our full-time programmes in the Department of Fine Art and Applied Art.  Students interested in pursuing this option should contact crawford.enquiries@mtu.ie and bear in mind that they would need to submit work for assessment at the end of the module.

Question Time

Yes, all materials and tools are supplied.

Old top/clothes or apron that you can get dirty. Sketchbook or notebook.

Yes. In the interest of current safety procedures, it would be recommended that students would bring their own tools or equipment, but it is not essential.

On occasion, students may be required to pay for materials that are not part of the standard supply. This would generally be nominal fee, less than normal retail costs.

Classes are 2.5 hours long with a half at the end for cleaning down and sanitising equipment.

There will be 12 classes in total. If a class is cancelled on a night, we will try to reschedule where possible.

Unfortunately, if a student misses a class they cannot make it up at a later date.

Students are not required to stay the full duration of the class, but they must ensure that any spaces or equipment they use on the night are cleaned and returned prior to leaving.

Students are not required to submit for assessment at the end of the term, however, those that do wish to submit, will need to notify the lecturer of their intent to do so, as early as possible.

Yes. However, if you do not regularly attend the course you cannot be assessed.

No. Unfortunately, all work must remain in the college.

No. Only work that is made in the college can be fired in the college, otherwise this can lead to overcrowding of shelves with work that is not part of the course.

Yes. Only work that is submitted for assessment must remain in the college until it is assessed, after that it can be collected and kept by the student.
