Overview

This course aims to produce graduates who can make a significant contribution to the design, operation, maintenance and management of process plant. The course concentrates on the mechanical aspects of process engineering design and selection, plant construction, condition monitoring, productive maintenance, plant safety, automation and control systems, project management and investment appraisal. This honours degree programme will help participants to develop the skills and knowledge to implement change and to undertake key operational management roles.

 

Course Delivery

Up to three evenings per week from 6:30 pm, with one semester requiring alternative Saturdays. This course is a minimum of two academic years.

 

Award

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Process Plant Technology (Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications).

What is a Module?

A module is a standalone unit of learning and assessment and is completed within one semester. A full-time student will normally study six modules in each semester; part-time and ACCS (Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects) students will have flexibility as to the number of modules taken.

Entry Requirements

Merit or better in a relevant Level 7 major award programme or equivalent. Candidates with sufficient experience which in the judgment of MTU may be deemed equivalent to this qualification will be considered following the principles/ procedures set out by the Recognition of Prior Learning service in MTU.

 

What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

Fees

€510 per module, €1,350 for project (see above).

 

Please note that applicants will be required to pay an acceptance fee of €250 online if a place on a course is offered. This fee is deductible from the overall course fee.
