Graduates who achieve the specified level of academic performance in the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education & Care or equivalent are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Education & Care (Level 8), 1 year full-time or by ACCS mode.

ACCS is an acronym for “Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Modules”. This scheme allows students (for specified courses) - instead of studying an entire course - to study one or more modules of that course. Modules passed, are certified individually, and can be accumulated, leading to an award of a honours degree.

Garda Vetting

MTU uses the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) to help assess the suitability of all applicants on this programme. It is important to note that participation in or completion of this programme may be affected by subsequent disclosure/discovery. This requirement is due to the mandatory external placement element of the programme which will bring the applicant into contact with children or vulnerable adults and in which they will assume positions of trust.

Offers of places on these designated programmes will be provisional and contingent on the applicant’s satisfactory completion of the NVB's procedure. Depending upon the outcome of the vetting process, the Institute reserves the following rights:

  1. to not register a student
  2. to remove an existing registered student
  3. to delay the student’s practice placement modules on course

Sport, Leisure and Childhood Studies

Lectures, tutorials, experiential, peer assessments and a research dissertation constitute the pedagogical means used. The programme is currently offered full time and through the ACCS mode. The programme aims to impart a knowledge and understanding of the management of human, physical, financial and other resources required for the delivery of programmes in early education in addition to associated research methods and ethical considerations for the development of standard practice and children’s rights in early education.
