MEDIC
The Medical Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (Medic) is committed to the design and development of medical devices as well as provision of a range of product development services to industry. MEDIC is based in the CREATE building on Cork Institute of Technology’s Bishopstown Campus.
MEDIC brings together the full set of skills required to develop medical devices, including an extensive network of clinicians, inventors, and industry partners. Ideas are taken from initial concept/idea stage through to commercialisation via a strictly defined design control process. MEDIC has its own full-time Quality Assurance and Regulatory specialist and its quality management system is certified to ISO13485 (design control). We are committed to the production and protection of Intellectual property (IP) and work extensively with patent lawyers and CIT’s Technology Transfer Office. MEDIC is a partner with UCC in the Health Innovation Hub Ireland (HIHI).
MEDIC can provide any subset of the device development process be it feasibility, design services, prototyping or Testing. MEDIC’s extensive capabilities include rapid prototyping, CMM metrology, mechanical tensile and torsion testing, as well as design expertise grounded in the extensive industry experience of its personnel.
