The Sports Office plays a key role in the life of CIT assisting students in the running of clubs and interacting with people of similar interests. CIT participates at the highest level of competition amongst the country’s third level institutions and in the world. As well as catering for the competitive athlete, CIT’s Sports Office place a big emphasis on participation and runs a number of activities such as aerobics, circuit training, and ‘fit for life’ programmes.

CIT Sports Scholarships are allocated for the Pursuit of Excellence in Sport
To underline its commitment to Sport, CIT annually awards Sports Scholarships to a wide range of sports for Seniors and First years (Freshers). The Sport Scholarships range in value from €500 to €1,250. It is expected that those awarded the Scholarship will have high levels of achievement in their chosen sport and a full involvement and participation in this sport at the Institute.
Closing date for applications is 5pm, Thursday 26th September 2019. See below on how to apply.
The service benefits to the recipients include access to CIT Sports Facilities including the Elite Gym & Weights Room, Sports Education Talks & Workshops and a Mentoring Support Network. These Scholarships provide valuable assistance to students in their quest for sporting excellence.
Application for a CIT Sports Scholarship is restricted to students that have met the CIT admission requirements through the CAO system and are enrolled on a programme of full-time academic study at CIT. If you believe you are of the calibre to receive a Sports Scholarship, we would encourage you to apply.
For the 2018/2019 academic year, 65 Sports Scholarships were awarded across 14 different sports to support and encourage the students to reach their full potential.
CIT is delighted to recognise such talented sports people from a broad range of sports including athletics, basketball, boxing, camogie, GAA, golf, handball, hockey, ladies football, orienteering, powerlifting, sailing, and soccer. CIT looks forward to helping each athlete achieve even more during their time in CIT and beyond. Our thanks to Munster GAA Council who sponsored eleven scholarships.
The programme has been in place at CIT since 1998 and over the years it has supported hundreds of up and coming sports stars in their quest to excel at their chosen sports.
Many of these students went on to become household names as they reached the top of both the national and international arenas. Sport stars like Rachel O'Shea (Athletics), Jane Mangan (Horse Racing), Anthony Nash, Michael Fennelly, John Gardiner, Ronan Curran, Lorcán McLoughlan, Mark Ellis (Hurling); Graham Canty, Ciarán Sheehan, Daniel Goulding, Paul Kerrigan, Colm O'Neill, Bryan Sheehan, Aidan O'Mahony (Football), Cliodhna Sargent, John Hobbs (Hockey), Juliet Murphy, Annie Walsh (Ladies Football), Eimear O'Sullivan, Jenny Duffy, Brenda Hanney (Camogie), Colin O'Reilly, Ciarán O'Sullivan, Rachel Vanderwal (Basketball), Gary O'Donovan, Shane O'Driscoll (Rowing), Nicholas O'Leary, Revelin Minihane (Sailing), Paudie O'Brien (Cycling), and Conor Skeehan (Racquetball) have all been supported by the CIT Sports Bursary Programme. Indeed they all began as 1st year scholarship recipients and as they progressed throughout their sport they availed of the Scholarship Support Programme up until their graduation.
