Course summary

This Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) accredited Special Purpose Award in Project Management uses a combination of external experts and in-house lecturers to provide a broad scope of industrial and academic expertise. Our panel of lecturers and experts includes those with multiple certifications from PMI® (Project Management Institute) and Scrum.org.

Who is this course aimed at?

The Diploma in Project Management is designed for those involved in a wide range of projects (not just technical or IT projects). Participants come from a broad range of sectors and backgrounds and are typically involved in the planning, control, and execution of project work in the broadest sense.

 

The course is suitable for individuals who may have practical experience of either being involved in projects as a team member or managing and leading projects but need to supplement this with the necessary education. The course teaches the latest tools and techniques of the most popular Project Management methodologies, namely Waterfall and Agile Project Management and the course content is applicable to all industrial sectors.

The Diploma includes a 1-day PM Certification advice and preparation session and also contains a 2 day 'boot camp' preparation course for the Professional Scrum Master™ (PSM1) certification exam (administered separately by Scrum.Org).

    The course fee is normally €3,850, however Cork Chamber Skillnet is currently providing a 30% funding support (‘workforce upskilling’) to each Diploma student, reducing the course cost from €3,850 to €2,695, providing a saving of €1,155.

Duration & Delivery
  • Because of COVID-19 and public health guidelines, the October 2021 and November 2021 courses will be delivered online.
     
  • The course timetable for January 2022 is currently planned as a ‘blended’ delivery which comprises of eight Fridays of physical classroom based, face-to-face teaching and live online sessions on fourteen Wednesday evenings.

About the Course

With the emergence of Project Management as a standalone profession, international accreditation that is accepted across industries is becoming increasingly important. The course is suitable for individuals who may have practical experience of either being involved in projects or managing and leading projects but need to supplement this with the necessary education. This course is aimed at those who seek to employ professional project management methodologies in the Initiation, Planning, Execution, Control and Close-Out of their Projects, and covers the most popular techniques in both Waterfall and Agile Project Management. The content is applicable to all industrial sectors (not just technical or IT projects).

 

 

This MTU accredited Special Purpose Award in Project Management uses a combination of external experts and inhouse lecturers to provide a broad scope of industrial and academic expertise. Our panel of lecturers and experts includes those with multiple certifications from PMI® (Project Management Institute) and Scrum.org.

 

The programme covers all knowledge areas of the internationally recognised approach to the planning and delivery of projects. Furthermore, MTU’s Award includes a detailed 2-day preparatory ‘boot-camp’ course for those candidates who intend to sit for Scrum Master credentials, the PSM1™.

 

The Special Purpose Award combines advanced Project Management techniques and methodologies with the real-life experiences of an expert panel of leading project management lecturers from a wide range of industrial sectors. The course consists of a combination of lectures, seminars, case studies, guest speakers, simulations and practical projects. Course delegates complete various assignments in the class, as project teams and individual assignments.

Certification

Students who complete all three modules, will be entitled to an accredited Diploma in Project Management (Special Purpose Award– 15 ECTS Credits at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications), awarded by Munster Technological University.

 

Project Management Certification

As an optional extra, candidates who complete the MTU Diploma in Project Management will be advised and encouraged to seek the most relevant professional certifications (e.g. PMI, Agile, Scrum etc.). Such certification exam fees are not included in the course cost.
