Important Information

  • You must register for the MTU Mathematics Examination by 2pm Monday September 5th.
  • The MTU Mathematics Examination reflects the actual Mathematical requirements of MTU programmes. It is marked according to procedures and criteria set out by the Department of Mathematics at both MTU Campuses.
  • This examination is specifically for applicants who have applied through the CAO for courses at MTU.
  • This examination does not interfere with your application for any other course in the CAO system.

  • CAO points are not awarded for this examination.

  • A pass in the MTU Mathematics Examination (i.e. 40% in Paper 1 or 40% overall) will allow an applicant to replace the Leaving Certificate Mathematics requirement of Grade O6/H7 minimum with a Grade O6/H7 minimum (Ordinary or Higher Level) in another Leaving Certificate subject.
  • Attaining a qualifying standard in the MTU Mathematics Examination does not in itself guarantee a place on any course at MTU. The cut-off points for all courses will still apply.
  • If you have a learning difference, disability or health condition and need any reasonable accommodations for the exam such as separate room, extra time, reading/writing support, sign language interpreter, modified paper, etc., you may request exam supports once the Leaving Certificate results are issued. Please contact the Disability Support Service, email: dssCork@mtu.ie by 2pm Monday 5th September, and include your name, CAO number, and date of birth in this email AND you will also need to include a copy of your documents with evidence/diagnosis of your learning difference, health condition or disability and/or exam supports in previous education by this date/time as well.
  • Your results of the MTU Mathematics Examination may be carried forward for a maximum of 2 academic years. After that, the Examination would need to be re-taken.
