MTU Cork Campus Mathematics Examination
MTU holds a Mathematics examination on both Cork and Kerry Campuses for applicants who have expressed an interest in any of its programmes that require certain minimum levels of performance in Mathematics. The purpose of this examination is to provide such applicants with a “second chance” opportunity to achieve these minimum Mathematics entry requirements.

Provisional Date & Procedures For Mathematics Examination for 2022 Admissions
The 2022 MTU Mathematics Examination will take place on Tuesday 6th September 2022. Please select to sit the MTU Mathematics examination at your preferred location below:
The Cork examination will take place at The Melbourn Examination Centre, MTU Bishopstown Campus (map here).
The Kery examination will take place at The Business IT Building, North Campus, Dromtacker, Tralee.
Applications for the MTU Campus Mathematic Exam will open after the Leaving Certificate results are published on 2nd September.

NB: A separate examination fee is payable in respect of each examination.
Paper One (Ordinary Level): €30.00
Paper One (Ordinary Level) & Paper Two (Higher Level): €50.00
There will be no refunds for those applicants who apply and pay, but do not take the exam.
Important Information
- You must register for the MTU Mathematics Examination by 2pm Monday September 5th.
- The MTU Mathematics Examination reflects the actual Mathematical requirements of MTU programmes. It is marked according to procedures and criteria set out by the Department of Mathematics at both MTU Campuses.
- This examination is specifically for applicants who have applied through the CAO for courses at MTU.
- This examination does not interfere with your application for any other course in the CAO system.
- CAO points are not awarded for this examination.
- A pass in the MTU Mathematics Examination (i.e. 40% in Paper 1 or 40% overall) will allow an applicant to replace the Leaving Certificate Mathematics requirement of Grade O6/H7 minimum with a Grade O6/H7 minimum (Ordinary or Higher Level) in another Leaving Certificate subject.
- Attaining a qualifying standard in the MTU Mathematics Examination does not in itself guarantee a place on any course at MTU. The cut-off points for all courses will still apply.
- If you have a learning difference, disability or health condition and need any reasonable accommodations for the exam such as separate room, extra time, reading/writing support, sign language interpreter, modified paper, etc., you may request exam supports once the Leaving Certificate results are issued. Please contact the Disability Support Service, email: dssCork@mtu.ie by 2pm Monday 5th September, and include your name, CAO number, and date of birth in this email AND you will also need to include a copy of your documents with evidence/diagnosis of your learning difference, health condition or disability and/or exam supports in previous education by this date/time as well.
- Your results of the MTU Mathematics Examination may be carried forward for a maximum of 2 academic years. After that, the Examination would need to be re-taken.
Examination Format
The examination consists of two papers. Paper 1 is compulsory for all candidates.
Paper 1 (morning)
Paper 1 is set at Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level.
