MTU Cork Mathematics Examination
MTU Cork holds a Mathematics examination for applicants who have expressed an interest in any of its programmes that require certain minimum levels of performance in Mathematics. The purpose of this examination is to provide such applicants with a “second chance” opportunity to achieve these minimum Mathematics entry requirements.
The Admissions office has no further information about the Maths Exam than is already provided below, so we kindly ask that you read the information carefully.
Provisional Date & Procedures For Mathematics Examination for 2020 Admissions
The 2020 MTU Cork Mathematics Examination will take place on Tuesday 15th September 2020. The Examination will take place at The Melbourn Examination Centre, CIT Bishopstown Campus (map here).
Applications are now closed for 2020 Academic Year.
Payment cannot be made in person at MTU Cork.

NB: A separate examination fee is payable in respect of each examination.
Paper One (Ordinary Level): €30.00
Paper One (Ordinary Level) & Paper Two (Higher Level): €50.00
There will be no refunds for those applicants who apply and pay, but do not take the exam.
Important Information
- The MTU Cork Mathematics Examination reflects the actual Mathematical requirements of MTU Cork programmes. It is marked according to procedures and criteria set out by the Department of Mathematics at MTU Cork.
- This examination is specifically for applicants who have applied through the CAO for courses in MTU Cork.
- This examination does not interfere with your application for any other course in the CAO system.
- CAO points are not awarded for this examination.
- A pass in the MTU Cork Mathematics Examination (i.e. 40% in Paper 1 or 40% overall) will allow an applicant to replace the Leaving Certificate Mathematics requirement of Grade O6/H7 minimum with a Grade O6/H7 minimum (Ordinary or Higher Level) in another Leaving Certificate subject.
- Attaining a qualifying standard in the MTU Cork Mathematics Examination does not in itself guarantee a place on any course in MTU Cork. The cut-off points for all courses will still apply.
- If you have a learning difference, disability or health condition and need any reasonable accommodations for the exam such as separate room, extra time, reading/writing support, sign language interpreter, modified paper, etc., you may request exam supports once the Leaving Certificate results are issued. Please contact Disability Support Service, email: dss@cit.ie by 5pm Friday 11th September, and include your name, CAO number, and date of birth in this correspondence. Please note any request will need to be backed up by documentation.
- Your results of the MTU Cork Mathematics Examination may be carried forward for a maximum of 2 academic years. After that, the Examination would need to be re-taken.
Examination Format
The examination consists of two papers. Paper 1 is compulsory for all candidates.
Paper 1 (morning)
Paper 1 is set at Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level.

Application procedure for September 2020 examination
Application and payment can only be made online after the publication of the Leaving Certificate results. Payment cannot be made in person at MTU Cork.
