Over the summer months, MEDIC has had three technology Commercialisation fund applications approved by Enterprise Ireland totalling €1,162,000 in funding to develop Medical Devices for clinical applications in Critical Care and ENT (Ear Nose & Throat). This brings MEDIC’s Research and Product Development income in the past 12-15 months to almost €2m from sources such as HRB, Enterprise Ireland and Local Industry. The devices in question are the output from a number of technology platforms which MEDIC has been developing, and a direct result of MEDIC’s close collaborations with practising clinicians and with the medical device industry.

MEDIC continues to generate technology platforms for related medical devices with a view to developing and commercialising a portfolio of Orthopaedic, ENT and Critical Care devices in the coming years.

MEDIC was initially funded through EI’s Applied Research Enhancement (ARE) programme and is currently in the final stages of application for the follow up ‘Technology Gateways’ programme. In this programme MEDIC will provide a repository of regulatory, IP, Process and Product development expertise for EI client companies in the medical device space.”
