CIT Entertains for Charity

Multi-award winning Chef Brendan Cashman and CIT have teamed up to raise much needed funds for the Cork branch of St Vincent de Paul.  Brendan will perform a seasonal-themed cookery demonstration on Wednesday, 5 December at 7.00pm in the Demonstration Theatre in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, CIT Bishopstown Campus.  

An acclaimed chef for many years, Brendan has been the recipient of various awards including ‘Best Chef Cork 2011’ and he has also received a Michelin recommendation.  Brendan modestly stated ‘I was always into food and I think we should all be able to cook.  It’s common sense – you need to eat so you need to be able to cook’.  Brendan also added that he is very much looking forward to returning to CIT to engage with students and staff to help start the festive season and to help the work of  St Vincent de Paul. 

Dr Margaret Linehan, Head, School of Humanities in CIT said ‘We are delighted to welcome Brendan back to CIT again this year, following his sell-out demonstration last year.  It is important for our culinary students to get the opportunity to work with first class chefs, and we are very pleased that some of our students will work with Brendan on 5 December to provide a great evening of entertainment together with raising funds for a very worthy cause.  We are also aware of our social responsibilities and we are very pleased to be in a position to support the wonderful work of St Vincent de Paul’.

This year, Brendan has planned to demonstrate some seasonal recipes, and will also illustrate techniques in relation to curing and home smoking.  All food cooked on the night will be available for tasting and copies of Brendan’s award-winning recipes will be available for all who attend.
