Projects

Facilities

There are a number of dedicated Biomedical Engineering laboratories containing leading edge technology. These facilitate teaching and research both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

  • Gait Analysis lab
  • Biomaterial lab
  • Hurley helmet testing rig
  • Instron dynamic testing machine
  • Non-contact 3D light scanner
  • Rapid prototyping machine

Undergraduate Projects

Biomedical Engineering projects in CIT exhibit the same diversity as the sector in general. They range from design and development of medical devices to testing hurley helmets to optimising the properties of biomaterials.

  • Hurley Helmet and sliotar testing
  • Dynamic testing of Equine tendon support boots
  • Design & Development of surgical drain tube clamp
  • Gait Analysis
  • Investigating the properties of bone cement

Post graduate projects

The following is a list of recently completed or on-going postgraduate research within the biomedical department at CIT.

  • Optimisation of bioactive glasses
  • Carbon dioxide detection/absorption in scuba diving equipment
  • Biomechanics of diabetic feet
  • Influence of hydrogen peroxide on properties of bone cement
  • Therapeutic Bone Allografts-Utilizing the advantages of glass-ceramics
  • Assessment of gait & motor deficiency in patients with Spina Bifida
