How to apply for courses (full time) in CIT as a Mature Student

The first step for anyone interested in attending the Institute is to get a copy of the CIT Prospectus or the visit the ‘Find a course’ section of this website. The Prospectus lists all the full-time courses available at the Institute.
Entry into first year of most of our full-time courses is offered through the CAO - the Central Applications Office. Applications can be made online. Applicants should follow the procedures as laid down in the CAO Handbook. Mature students should pay particular attention to the following pages: 5, 6, 7 & 8.

The CAO closing date is 1st February 2017.
Please note: Late applications are not accepted by mature applicants to CIT.

Applications from mature applicants (non-standard) for entry into year 1 of a full time undergraduate programme must be made through the CAO by 1st February each year. There is no late closing date for mature applicants. However, if you wish to apply through the CAO using a Leaving Certificate or FETAC qualification you can apply up to 1st May.

Mature applicants may not be required to satisfy the minimum entry requirements. Mature Students should fill out the appropriate section of the CAO application form i.e. Tick the MATURE box on the CAO form and you will be required to write a Personal Statement. See page 13 of the CAO Handbook for more information. Relevant work experience, skills gained through experiential learning and other qualifications will be considered in the assessment of these applications.

Mature students may also use a Leaving Certificate or QQI (Level 5/6) qualification when applying through the CAO in order to be considered on the basis of points in addition to being considered as a mature applicant on your own merit.

For Leaving Certificate qualifications insert your Leaving Certificate number on the CAO form where required. You can attain your Leaving Certificate number from the Post Primary School that you attended. For applicants with a FETAC (Level 5/6) qualification you will be asked to insert your PPS Number on the CAO form if you are taking and/or have completed a QQI Award.
