CIT welcomes Cork County Culture Night 2011

With over seventy five cultural venues open late for one night only and more than 200 free events, why not  explore Cork’s rich and diverse culture after dark.
 

Running from early evening until very late, there will be something for everyone, young and old alike. Theatres, galleries, observatories, public laboratories, artist studios, historic houses and Churches are staying open late and putting on a range of special programmes, all for FREE.

Cork’s artists and venues have all welcomed and supported Culture Night Cork 2011.

Culture Night is an initiative coordinated by Temple Bar Cultural Trust and supported by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism in partnership with Cork City Council.

Trish Brennan, Head of Department of Fine Art at CCAD and Marcel Vos and Erik Kok from Aki/ Artez, Enschede in Holland will open the exhibition MEMENTO 3 at 4pm today. It includes work from 7 international art institutions, including CIT/CCAD where Marcel, Erik and their colleague Rudi delivered workshops in April, and Aki/ Artez, where Trish Brennan and Roseanne Lynch (CCAD) also delivered workshops in March.

The Exhibition continues until 28th October. Opening hours 9am - 6pm Tues - Sat

MEMENTO 3
Exhibition Opening at 4pm

This exhibition is a result of an international Erasmus project, exploring the notion of memory and recollection. This work emerged from intensive workshops delivered across various institutions in Europe.

Tom Climent exhibits

Exhibition of work by Fine Art Research MA student Tom Climent. Sculpture is a new direction in tom Climent’s work, looking at a painting as an object, the actual physical structure of a painting, the stretcher and canvas.

Backwater Artists Group
Backwater Artists Group will host guided tours of the studios (every half hour). Exhibiton os artists’ work in the studio complex will include ‘Lost and Found’ an exhibition of work by Artist Aoife Barrett. Light refreshments will also be available.

CCAE invites you to immerse yourself in its projects in collaboration with MeithelMara. See the first ‘Corkumnavigation’ as seen from the bow of a kayak.  See the student-built currach and more in the atmospheric lights of Copley Street courtyard.

The award-winning Cosmos at the Castle exhibit will be open from 6pm. When darkness falls, the Cork Astronomy Club will guide visitors in stargazing. The Castle Café will be serving delicious food and ambient sounds in the Café and courtyard.
