Charity Art Auction Night at CIT > 15 May 2014

Published on: Saturday, 10 May 2014

presented by Early Years Education (EYE Year 1 & 3) and Montessori Education (Year 3) students.

James Barry Exhibtion Centre and Rory Gallagher Theatre

CIT will host an exhibition of child-based art work, created by CIT Montessori and Early Years Creative Arts students. Based on the story of Narnia it features a programme of performances and exhibitions, as well as a fundraising art auction in aid of CUH Paediatric Ward Play/Education Room.
On May 6th at 11am in the Rory Gallagher Theatre, there will be a Screening of Montessori Shadow Puppet Animation followed by a Theatrical Performance of Narnia.

Children from local Early Years Centres and Primary Schools will be invited to enjoy the students interpretation of C.S. Lewis' all time classic. This will be followed by a chance for the young visitors to “Meet the Cast.”

The production is the culmination of a teaching module where students are introduced to the many practical aspects of Performance and Art in the Theatre: From improvisation, character building, performance to set and costume design, and story-telling through the use of shadow puppetry.
Later that day sees the Opening of EYE (Y3) Thematic Exhibition where students illustrate the magical story of Narnia, a fantasy world full of strange and wondrous characters and events. In the exhibition, which is open for public viewing Monday to Saturday 9am - 4pm, students’ individual art pieces are created by using 'free and found' materials only - what would generally be termed 'junk'.

An auction of all the art pieces will be held on the evening of May 15th with proceeds going to Cork University Hospital (CUH) Paediatric Ward Play/Education Room. The idea of an auction came about a couple of years ago, when was felt that it was preferable that the art might find home in a child’s bedroom or an EYE classroom. The Charity Art Auction begins at 7pm in the James Barry Exhibition Centre, CIT Bishopstown Campus.
