CIT's School of Business is offering a new Bachelor of Business (Honours) in International Business (CR 425) this September. This innovative programme is geared at preparing students to work in roles that require broad understanding of business in an international environment. It is a four-year, full time, degree programme and application for entry is made online to CIT: not through the CAO. Candidates may make an application in advance of Leaving Certificate results being issued.

Students will have the opportunity to undertake placement/study abroad while also developing skills in marketing, sales, business development and management. On completion of the programme students will have a strong understanding of the international business environment, coupled with business-level proficiency of a foreign language.

This programme entails a number of educational innovations that are designed to ensure a rounded graduate. The International Business Field Trip is an opportunity for immersion in non-Irish culture. It will entail preparation work, learner activity while on the trip, and subsequent submissions.

There will also be an industry placement in a country where the language being learned is widely spoken – graduates that have studied or worked abroad may be more favourably perceived by employers as it points to an ability to adapt and develop in new ways.

In Year 4 students will participate in a series of guest lectures presented by industry experts drawn from public, private, and the voluntary sectors. This complements the constant exposure to guest speakers throughout the programme.

Business placement is a significant feature of the programme and contributes to the distinctiveness of the graduate. Irish business is actively seeking business professionals with strong foreign language skills.

Language development is a key part of the skill repertoire and the programme has been designed to assist development from a post Leaving Certificate level of ability to a fluency that will allow effective communication in any business or social situation. Students will choose a language they have studied for Leaving Certificate and continue this at an advanced level throughout the programme. Minimum Language requirements are C3 at Higher Level or B1 at Ordinary Level.
