Event: Comet brings Santa to Cosmic Christmas at Blackrock Castle Observatory, Cork!

Visit Santa and his cosmic crew on the Christmas Comet that brought them to Blackrock Castle Observatory on 5 December. This unique educational visit to Santa includes meeting Santa on his smoking comet, an astro packed gift bag, a tour of the award winning interactive astronomy exhibit Cosmos at the Castle and a half hour educational workshop where children learn about our Solar System and create stellar Christmas decorations. While waiting for Santa, the children transmit their Christmas letter to Santa via radio telescope. 

All this, for the family friendly price of €40 per family ticket, €15 per child, €6.00 per adult. Photos available.

Cosmic Christmas is not just for children. Adults too can enjoy the atmospheric Christmas mood in the Castle courtyard where stalls will sell a range of Christmas crafts, accompanied by a background of talented local Carol singers.


Other highlights are late night visits to the exhibit Cosmos at the Castle, stargazing evenings guided by astronomers and Movies by Moonlight in the luxurious Castle Theatre. Follow this by a relaxing gourmet meal in the Castle Bar and Trattoria over delicious Italian food and mulled wine. About Blackrock Castle Observatory and RSVP
Blackrock Castle was originally built on the Lee as a watchtower in 1582.In an exciting collaboration between Cork City Council and the Cork Institute of Technology, Blackrock Castle was opened to the public in August 2007 as Blackrock Castle Observatory, the Space for Science. Blackrock Castle Observatory has now welcomed over 55,000 visitors. It houses a team of scientists working on new technologies searching for planets around distant stars.

Cosmos at the Castle is Blackrock Castle’s international award-winning interactive exhibit. Four cinema sized screens share information on the Big Bang, the evolution of life on Earth and poses the question ‘Are we alone in the Universe?’ The cinema show has an interactive game The Comet Chaser which challenges visitors to save the Earth from colliding with a comet. Cosmos at the Castle is an exciting adventure for visitors of all ages.
