CIT Wins Pharma Laboratory of the Year in National Awards

Dr Roy Sleator of CIT’s Department of Biological Sciences has won the Pharmaceutical Laboratory of the Year Award for 2014 at the Irish Laboratory Awards which recognise the top pharmaceutical research laboratories in Ireland.
The Awards were presented at a formal event at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin hosted by comedian Neil Delamere and trophies were presented to the very best academic and professional laboratories in the country.
The event, which is held annually and supported by Science Foundation Ireland, the Health Research Board and the Irish Research Council, highlights exceptional achievement across a number of key disciplines; showcasing the very best that the country has to offer in innovation, research and education.
Speaking at the event, Roy praised his team of researchers at CIT and key external collaborators including the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre at UCC, Teagasc, Moorepark and Cork University Hospital.
Roy said that CIT was “an excellent place to work and study” and he praised the interdisciplinary culture of the Institute which fosters a knowledge ecosystem incorporating both basic and applied research.
Roy also acknowledged the support and encouragement his research group has received in CIT, at Departmental, School, & Faculty level and, also the very significant input of the Research and Development Offices.
